U.S. Facilities and Operations:

 

Supporting product sales are a network of nationwide marketing and manufacturing locations. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is home to the U.S. Corporate Headquarters along with the marketing offices of the Hospital, Outpatient Markets (OPM), Renal Therapies, Vascular Interventional, International, and OEM Divisions. Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc.(CAPS®) is also managed from this location. The nearby Allentown, Pennsylvania, facility manufactures Needle-free products, IV Safety Catheters, Anesthesia Systems, Introducers, Pharmacy Admixture products. Vascular products including Right Heart Catheters and Interventional Accessories are also manufactured in Allentown. The Irvine, California facility produces IV Solutions, Basic and Specialty Nutrition, Drug Delivery, and BTC products. Infusion Pump Systems are manufactured in Carrollton, Texas and IV administration and IV and Irrigation sets are produced in the Dominican Republic.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Position Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Components Engineering Manager, the Plastics Technical Specialist provides technical support to the E3 Blow Molding Plastics Department. This position assists with coordinating day to day work execution of the E3 Blow Molding and Filling Room. Additionally, this role will serve as a technical resource within the Process and Product Department in the Technical Services functional area in Irvine. The Plastics Technical Specialist will be directly responsible for supporting all current plastics manufacturing processes for E3. This position works closely with all key product line stakeholders and serves as the subject matter expert for E3 Blow Molding area and leads a team of Process Technicians in this department.

 

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Assist the E3 area Department Manager with attaining production goals (Rate, Quality, Yields).
  • Assists in executing day to day productivity of the E3 Blow Molding production area.
  • Assists the technical production staff with prioritizing and attaining the production goals for the E3 Blow Molding and Filling areas.
  • Provides technical support to the Project Managers on new blow molding, plastics and technology initiatives.
  • Actively participates in the new product development processes.
  • Supports new equipment / process implementation(s).
  • Performs risk analysis and cost avoidance activities.
  • Conducts Product / Process validation activities.
  • Identifies and executes against department continuous improvement targets (cycle time, waste reduction initiatives activities).
  • Assist Management in tracking production performance factors such as raw material usage, direct labor performance, in direct costs, rejects and skills applicable in identifying areas needing improvement.
  • Under the direction of Management, train, instruct and guide employees in the proper operation and performance of job duties, to assure that good manufacturing practices and standard production operating procedures are followed most effectively.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

  • Plastics Blow Molding Processing skills
    • Tooling Preventative Maintenance Practices
    • Tooling, Materials and Equipment advanced knowledge relative to Blow Molding
    • Knowledge of Advanced Integrated Systems applications. (Medical / Consumer / Consumer Health, Liquid Media Packaged / Container Goods…. i.e., IV Bags, Cosmetics, Healthcare Consumer packaged products / liquids)
    • Scientific, method and practice of extrusion blow, stretch blow or blow fill seal process knowledge, capable of training others
    • Closed Loop Process Control
    • Pressure Transducer Systems and applications.
  • Plastics Extrusion Processing Skills
  • Knowledge of Container Filling Systems a real plus
  • Knowledge of Terminal Sterilization products / systems experience a real plus
  • Systematic Plastic tools / expert with the ability to train, coach and mentor the technical team players
  • Blow Molding application expert capable of troubleshooting tooling issues and negotiate / justify direction
  • Tooling application expert capable of troubleshooting tooling issues and negotiate / justify improvements or direction of repairs
  • Lean manufacturing and advanced statistical analysis.
  • DFSS / VA / VE
  • New Process Development
  • PFMEA Development
  • Process DOE development and execution
  • Process/Product Validations.

 

Qualifications

 

Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc

 

Required:

  • BS Degree in a technical field and 5 years experience in plastics; consumer; consumer healthcare; medical device; combination products; or pharmaceutical products manufacturing environment or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Limited domestic and/or international travel may be required%

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of Container Filling Systems
  • Knowledge of Terminal Sterilization products / systems experience
  • Capability of creating manuals and engineering specifications.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, GMP, and OSHA regulations.
  • Computer literacy, knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
