U.S. Facilities and Operations:


Supporting product sales are a network of nationwide marketing and manufacturing locations. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is home to the U.S. Corporate Headquarters along with the marketing offices of the Hospital, Outpatient Markets (OPM), Renal Therapies, Vascular Interventional, International, and OEM Divisions. Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc.(CAPS®) is also managed from this location. The nearby Allentown, Pennsylvania, facility manufactures Needle-free products, IV Safety Catheters, Anesthesia Systems, Introducers, Pharmacy Admixture products. Vascular products including Right Heart Catheters and Interventional Accessories are also manufactured in Allentown. The Irvine, California facility produces IV Solutions, Basic and Specialty Nutrition, Drug Delivery, and BTC products. Infusion Pump Systems are manufactured in Carrollton, Texas and IV administration and IV and Irrigation sets are produced in the Dominican Republic.


Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor/Lead Processing Technician, set up, operate and perform machine/equipment installations and repairs on plastics equipment to produce quality-molded components 

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Properly set processing equipment and molding tools as instructed by Shift Supervisor, Chief Operator or Scheduler.
  • Set up all operating parameters on above equipment as per process data card (i.e., heaters, times pressures, speeds, type of material and electronic process controllers).
  • Check on the quality of molded products through Process Tech or Quality Inspector or by self-inspection. Variations are communicated with Process Tech or Supervisor to take necessary action. (All Setup Technicians must be able to operate all basic quality control measuring devices.)
  • Setup Technicians are directly responsible for all plastic processing related equipment such as grinders, conveyors, vacuum loaders, etc. This responsibility covers what equipment is utilized at what machine as well as the maintenance of said machinery (i.e., seeing to it that work orders are written whenever related equipment has defect beyond general repair) and reports this to the Chief Operator or Shift Supervisor.
  • Perform routine and/or periodic preventive maintenance as prescribed.
  • Assist Process Tech in responding to machine/material problems encountered on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot problems as to whether mechanical, electrical and hydraulic and report to Process Technician/Supervisor so a proper work order can be filled out and distributed appropriately.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion as specified by shift supervision.
  • May assist Process Tech/Supervisor in coordinating work activities in an assigned area to meet weekly production commitments.
  • Work in other areas as needed.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

  • Care and attention required in setup of all equipment, especially of molds and in maintenance of equipment.
  • Attention to processes necessary to avoid loss of product.
  • Care and attention necessary in adjusting machines to prevent equipment damage.
  • Care necessary when operating power hand tools.
  • Care and attention when performing maintenance on equipment, especially when guards are removed or when working in a position above others.


Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc


  • High school diploma or equivalent. Formal vocational or technical training preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience in plastics process, completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent training or experience.
  • Able to set up molds in different machine types - Robotshot, Nisse, Toshiba, etc.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
