    U.S. Facilities and Operations:


    Supporting product sales are a network of nationwide marketing and manufacturing locations. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is home to the U.S. Corporate Headquarters along with the marketing offices of the Hospital, Outpatient Markets (OPM), Renal Therapies, Vascular Interventional, International, and OEM Divisions. Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc.(CAPS®) is also managed from this location. The nearby Allentown, Pennsylvania, facility manufactures Needle-free products, IV Safety Catheters, Anesthesia Systems, Introducers, Pharmacy Admixture products. Vascular products including Right Heart Catheters and Interventional Accessories are also manufactured in Allentown. The Irvine, California facility produces IV Solutions, Basic and Specialty Nutrition, Drug Delivery, and BTC products. Infusion Pump Systems are manufactured in Carrollton, Texas and IV administration and IV and Irrigation sets are produced in the Dominican Republic.


    Position Summary:

    The Technical Services Manager II will lead a team of technical engineering subject matter experts and day to day maintenance supervisors to support manufacturing operations for the Irvine Site. As an assigned representative to the Product Line for the specific manufacturing area, the Technical Services Manager will be the owner of all the day to day Technical Services related activities in the area. This position will lead the Technical Services resources to provide day to day support in terms of maintenance, process/manufacturing engineering and automation/controls engineering. Together with the applicable Product leaders for Manufacturing and Quality, the Technical Services leader will own the performance of the manufacturing area against the key business objectives such as safety, quality, compliance, production output and COGM. The incumbent in this role will lead, hire, develop, manage, coach and mentor all Technical Services resources in the area to improve and sustain their performance. This position will be directly accountable to manage performance of equipment and systems plus processes to improve the output, efficiency or quality of the manufactured products. In the matrix environment, this position will report solid-line to the Director of Line Engineering and Maintenance.


    Responsibilities: Essential Duties

    • Supervises Technical Services resources to provide day to day support in terms of maintenance, process/manufacturing engineering, automation and controls for ongoing manufacturing operation.
    • Supervise Maintenance Supervisors or leads and ensure all maintenance related activities are performed as required. This includes PM’s, DM’s, calibrations and any TPM improvements.
    • Supports development of the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program for the manufacturing/facilities equipment and areas.
    • Ensure all required spare parts listed by equipment manufacturers or reliability engineers are identified and kept on hand.
    • Champions culture of reliability; drives reliability centric methodology, programs, processes and mindset in the team to improve performance of the assets and people.
    • Monitors maintenance processes for compliance with the Company, FDA, OSHA, and GMP regulations.
    • Assist in coordinating plant shutdowns in areas of responsibility to include preventative maintenance, major projects, and plant modifications.
    • Collaborates with leaders for Manufacturing and Quality to deliver superior business results in terms of safety, quality, compliance, production output and COGM.
    • Works with other groups on process, quality, and cost improvement projects as well as in the resolution of major issues.
    • Sets priorities for manufacturing/facilities maintenance department in accordance with the plant priorities.
    • Reviews the current state and implements changes for improving the efficiencies of the Tech Services functions.
    • Responsible for monthly spare parts expenses and monthly cost forecasts for area of responsibility. Prepares annual expense budget for manufacturing/facilities maintenance.
    • Ensure adequate staffing (headcount) and coordinate tasks for hiring of additional personnel. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and overseeing training of employees.
    • Provides performance appraisal, employee coaching and counseling. Resolves conflicts and initiates disciplinary action when needed. Approves employee change status such as promotion, demotion, termination, etc.
    • Develops on the job technical and equipment safety training for Technical Services personnel.
    • Interfaces with outside vendors for equipment purchases.
    • Ensures that all areas and equipment are maintained in good housekeeping condition.

    • Expertise in Budgeting, budget management, Project prioritization and business case development
    • Expert knowledge of business systems such as MS Office, SAP, Lotus Notes
    • Knowledge of GMPs both basic and unique to the department’s specialty(s) area.


    Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc


    • BS in Engineering or Science.
    • 8 - 10 years of experience in maintenance or a technical field, supplemented by courses in Supervisory and Communication Skills.


    • Experience with Automation, PLC’s, Controls Engineering and Vision Systems is a plus.
    • Experience in predictive maintenance technologies.
    • Previous experience in a similar function.
    • Experience in Pharma or Medical Device Manufacturing.
    • MS in Engineering or Science.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
