    Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc. (CAPS®) is the nation's largest network of outsourcing admixture pharmacies. CAPS, a pioneer in the outsourcing of compounded sterile preparations was founded in 1991.


    State-licensed and FDA-registered, CAPS pharmacies deliver solutions from more locations than any other national compounder. CAPS provides both custom and standard solutions to hospital and outpatient providers from our 25 locations across the United States. Making over 300,000 local deliveries annually, CAPS pharmacies operate 365 days a year to dispense labeled, patient-specific and anticipatory IV prescriptions to our health system pharmacy customers.


    CAPS believes safety is job one. Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive and continuous quality assurance program in the industry. We perform environmental monitoring, regular process validations, and daily process sterility testing as part of our routine Continuous Quality Assessment and Improvement Program.


    The CAPS service is focused on the daily admixing, dispensing, and delivery of a variety of CSPs. CAPS uniquely trained and licensed pharmacy personnel compound a broad range of patient and non-patient specific CSPs embracing the latest compounding technology, including proprietary software for ordering prescriptions and barcode safety checks for automated and manual compounding processes.


    Each CAPS pharmacy is managed by a pharmacist with well-established compounding expertise. These directors manage a team of licensed pharmacists and certified technicians trained on CAPS Standard Operating Procedures. CAPS employs a QA team of chemists, microbiologists, and on-site quality assurance personnel who are accountable independently from the admixture staff. Quality Assurance reports are provided to our clients on a quarterly basis.


    Orders are sent via CAPSLink, a web-based proprietary ordering software that can manage both complex and patient-specific prescriptions like Parenteral Nutrition (PN) and anticipatory compounded (AC) non-patient-specific order requests. CAPS ordering system can also interface with your pharmacy management software for convenience and broader custom service options. Pharmacists review orders upon receipt and prepare your order using an automated compounding process and a bar coded manual-add-system (MAS) to verify ingredient accuracy.


    CAPS mixes to order so you can be assured your order is freshly compounded and has maximum beyond use dating (BUD) when delivered. CAPS has a variety of delivery options including same day and next day services.


    Position Summary:


    The Senior Systems Administrator position is a planning, development, and third-level support position. This person will be responsible for developing system architectures and monitoring technologies that will allow CAPS to grow, while maintaining the highest level of up-time possible within allocated budgets. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for providing CAPS IT and Operations with system designs that are efficient, cost-conscience, reliable, and supportable. This critical position will ultimately be responsible for the creation and support of servers, workstations, and printers in a wide area network configuration.


    Responsibilities: Essential Duties

    • Gather System Requirements for systems and support tools
    • Develop and document detailed functional specifications and detailed designs per internal Standard Operating Procedures
    • Build, prototype, test, QA, and rollout production systems that fit specifications and budgets
    • Plan rollout procedures and processes for new systems
    • Develop, recommend, and implement system monitoring tools, patch tools, and application management tools.
    • Proactively plan and perform remote site visits to maintain, replace, and monitor systems. At least 25% travel will be required to implement and support CAPS pharmacies
    • Act as third-level support 24x365 and make sure that vacation hours are covered by other CAPS IT personnel.
    • Act as first-level support for at least 1 week per month in support rotation, 24 hours per day
    • Closely monitor all critical systems
    • Train other CAPS IT personnel with respect to systems architecture, support, monitoring, and fail-over procedures
    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and internal training of CAPS IT support personnel
    • Perform advanced support for Windows and VMware environments

    Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

    • Able to install and configure VMware ESX servers in iSCSI and SAN environment.
    • Ability to load and configure Windows 2003 servers in a VMware environment.
    • Configure domain attributes using OU’s. Manage user accounts and profiles.
    • Configure HP stand-alone and HP blade servers.
    • Configure, test and deploy Windows Vista desktop environment to remote sites for use in office and production environments.
    • Ability to design, document, load and configure VMware server systems for deployment.  
    • Ability to develop, design, document, and deploy Windows Vista desktops to remote locations.
    • Recommend, configure and use system monitoring tools that provide system availability, application availability, performance, and utilization.
    • Able to proactively gather system requirements and translate the requirements into a detailed design document, cost analysis, and benefits analysis.
    • Able to clearly document designs using clearly defined Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Able to monitor systems, and to assure that the proper systems maintenance contracts are up to date.
    • Able to document hardware issues, and make appropriate decisions about gaining rapid support.
    • Ability to proactively plan for system upgrades based upon current environment and future requirements.
    • Must be able to clearly and calmly communicate with remote Pharmacy staff (customers).
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English and be comfortable with the volume of documentation required.
    • Must respond appropriately to criticality of system quality standards in pharmacy business.
    • Must have an excellent working relationship with peers and internal customers.
    • Must be able to train peers.


    Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc



    • BS in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering or science degree
    • VMware system administration training
    • Windows system administration training and certifications: MCP, MCSA, and MCSE
    • Windows Vista administration training: MCTS
    • 10 years experience System design, configuration, implementation and deployment of Windows servers, VMware servers, Windows desktops, printers, and on-going system maintenance
    • Must have good credit in order to qualify for AMEX business card.
    • Must have valid drivers license and passport and be able to travel internationally – 25% travel


    • Detailed knowledge of Windows administration and some networking knowledge; Knowledge of HP Blade servers and HP server hardware a plus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
