Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Staff Engineer will sustain existing product designs through cost savings, design/quality improvements, or material changes.  Provide engineering support for a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing products and processes. Provide effective project management and leadership.

 

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Research, develop and prepare design/specifications for improvements to existing product, process, equipment, and technology.
  • Lead projects by contributing to the development of project schedules, teams, tracking costs, preparing status reports, conducting team meetings, and communicating issues and progress to management.
  • Align internal component/material specifications with external supplier specifications.
  • Prepare RCI’s including project description, schedule and costs.
  • Supervise and direct contract personnel and outside vendors in the performance of contracted services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to subordinates within the Engineering organization.
  • Supervise daily activities of all levels of Engineering Aides.
  • Provide direction and technical decision making for management involving capital asset purchases and expenses for projects and/or strategic activities involving up to $5MM (capital/expense/revenue potentials).
  • Prepare and present technical investigative reports to management.
  • Moderate degree of both internal and external personnel interfaces.
  • Preparation of specifications and protocols for the development, testing and qualification of equipment, processes and products.
  • Communicate, both verbally and written, project activities to supervisor and Senior Leadership Team.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires full working knowledge of relevant business practices and procedures in professional field. Uses standard theories, principles and concepts and integrates them to propose a course of action.
  • Works under general supervision. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish assigned goals. May periodically assist in orienting, training, assigning & checking the work of other peers.
  • Judgement is required in resolving all day-to-day problems.
  • Contacts are primarily with department supervisors, leads, subordinates, and peers. Frequent contact with external contractors/vendors.
  • Experience with product development, sustaining, or manufacturing support for Pharmacutical or Medical Device products preferred.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills (Minitab or similar) preferred.
  • Strong solid modeling skills (Solidworks or similar) referred
  • DMAIC black belt or green belt preferred.
  • Experience working or collaborating with Product Development teams such as Regulatory Affairs, Labeling, R&D, and Marketing preferred.
  • Experience supporting quality issues such as CAPA, Customer complaints, Discrepancies, etc. preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 06-08 years related experience required.
