Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Corporate VP, R&D (US), the Director of Product Innovation & Development will lead a team in ideation of creative product concepts that meet strategic business opportunities.



Responsibilities: Essential Duties:

  • Lead a technical pharmaceutical product development organization with a focus on vision, collaboration, employee engagement and empowerment to foster creative and accountable application of the team member’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Scientifically knowledgeable of FDA Class I-III generic drug development and associated Regulatory expectations with specific experience in 505b2 Regulatory pathways.
  • Think and engage strategically across functions to meet both commercial and operational objectives
  • Demonstrate administrative capability to set priorities, establish project budgets and monthly financial controls, status reports, HR initiatives etc.
  • Possess Project Management skills and experience including the activities of estimating, creating team environment, establishing milestones and technical targets, scheduling and tracking progress, and escalating issues toward resolution.  
  • Leads the team in ideation of creative product concepts that meet strategic business opportunities.
  • Possesses subject matter expertise with respect to formulation Chemistry, qualification of active and inactive ingredients and packaging materials including the process and approaches to development of associated Pharmaceutical test methods.
  • Oversees Lifecycle Management (LCM) of Chemistry methods for assuring the quality of existing Pharmaceutical products being manufactured at B. Braun meet current industry standards.  
  • Focuses on market trends, end-user processes and business strategies that can be converted into new or enriched innovative product concepts or systems.
  • Researches new and evolving technology applications or new idea submissions related to active medical device/pharmaceutical products.  
  • Generates ideas, reviews feasibility, and conducts proof of principle activities that answer market needs and reasonably translate into valuable medical products or services.
  • Develops conceptual design requirements, iterative product conceptualization and feasibility evaluation working toward a viable product design.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees (Managers, Supervisors, Associates, etc.). Responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department(s) or function.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires breadth of professional field and industry knowledge. Ability to integrate critical information and champion advanced strategies/concepts through the organization. Drives development of advanced technologies, principles and processes.
  • Manages activities of a functional area which has at least 2 departments or major functions through managers and/or experienced employees. Responsible for cost, method, and employee results.
  • Judgement is required in resolving complex problems based on experience.
  • Represents the organization as a prime contact on projects and departmental operations. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on issues often requiring coordination across organizational lines.



Expertise: Qualifications -Education/Experience/Training/Etc



  • PhD in Chemistry or Pharma related field.
  • 10-12 years related experience required.
  • Applicable industry/professional certification preferred.
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Occasional business travel required, Secrecy and invention agreement and non-compete agreement


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
