Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Corporate VP, R&D (US), the Director of Product Innovation will engage a cross-functional team in user-needs identification and ideation of creative product concepts that meet strategic business opportunities. The role includes responsibility for competitive product evaluation as well as scientific and data measures that support internal Pharmaceutical and combination drug/device product pipeline generation and decision-making.


Responsibilities: Essential Duties:

  • Through vision, collaboration, and cross-functional employee engagement, this role will foster creative and accountable application of professional knowledge, skills, and experience in the development of a pipeline of next generation Pharma-related opportunities that fulfill the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Focuses on market trends, end-user processes, and business strategies that can be converted into new or enriched innovative product concepts or systems.
  • Researches new and evolving technology applications or new idea submissions related to combination medical device/pharmaceutical products.
  • Possesses subject matter expertise with respect to formulation Chemistry, qualification of active and inactive ingredients and evaluation of packaging materials.
  • Scientifically knowledgeable of  and associated Regulatory expectations with specific experience in 505b2 Regulatory pathways.
  • Thinks and engages strategically across functions to meet both commercial and operational objectives.
  • Possess Project Management skills and experience including the activities of estimating, creating a team environment, establishing milestones and technical targets, scheduling and tracking progress, and escalating issues toward resolution.
  • Generates ideas, reviews feasibility, and conducts proof of principle activities that answer market needs and reasonably translate into valuable medical products or services.
  • Develops conceptual design requirements, iterative product conceptualization and feasibility evaluation working toward a viable product design.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department(s) or function.
  • Relevant practical experience and expertise in Injectable Drug development is required. Experience in Oncology (including dose-banding), Antibiotics, and Biosimilars is preferred.  
  • May be required to demonstrate administrative capability in setting priorities, establishing project budgets and associated financial controls, status reports, HR initiatives etc. 
  • May be required to lead and direct the work of other employees (Managers, Supervisors, Associates, etc.) including the responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination.

  • Judgement is required in resolving complex problems based on experience.
  • Represents the organization as a prime contact concerning competitive monitoring, innovation sensing, business planning together with Marketing, and proof of principle activities. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on issues often requiring coordination across organizational lines.



Expertise: Qualifications -Education/Experience/Training/Etc



  • Master’s degree required. PhD preferred.
  • 10-12 years related experience required.
  • Applicable industry/professional certification preferred.
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Occasional business travel required, Secrecy and invention agreement and non-compete agreement
