Position Summary:

Responsible for developing overall goals, operating plans and policies for the organization, and implementing board-approved plans. Directs company business within plan to achieve desired profit and return on invested capital goals and to ensure the achievement of business objectives. Exercises judgment in determining management direction for the company that will most adequately meet the needs of each major constituency that the company serves, including customers, owner-shareholders, and employees. Carries personal leadership responsibility to assure that the interests of each of these key groups are served in a manner that is consistent with company policy.

Responsibilities: Essential Duties


                Works with the organization’s Board of Directors to develop and approve business objectives, policies and plans which achieve company profitability and development goals. Communicates business objectives and plans within the company. Ensures that plans and policies are consistently understood and correctly interpreted and administered by company executives and managers. Through policy statements, management actions and written/verbal communication, sets the tone for the company’s relations with its employees and customers.

*              Management:

                Directs company operations to achieve planned performance goals. Assures that each company operating unit is properly designed to provide those functions required for the achievement of business objectives. Assures that each operating unit is properly organized, staffed and directed to fulfill its responsibilities. Assures the development of planning and control systems and other management systems that may be required to ensure effective control of each company unit.

*              Resource Development:

                Responsible for the development of the organization and its personnel, products, facilities, technology, and appropriate financial resources to secure the position of the company and to facilitate its planned development

Planning and Analysis:

Directs periodic review of company’s strategic product and market position. Combines this information with corollary analysis of company services, technical capabilities and financial resources; shape appropriate strategic business plans and policies. Exerts a consistent force for the pursuit and achievement of approved plans for the future development of the company’s business. May act for the Board of Directors in planning and directing investigations and negotiations concerning acquisitions and mergers.

*              Staff:

Hires and develops direct reporting staff to adequately assist President in fulfilling corporate responsibilities. Ensures staff receives proper training and development, inside or outside the company, and necessary tools to carry out assigned duties.

*              Participates in providing direction to staff of direct reports in daily departmental responsibilities.

*              Represents Aesculap at product shows, trade shows, and other relevant conventions.

*              Represents Aesculap for legal investigations.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

Secondary or peripheral job functions:

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally by air and car, and work occasional weekends. Must possess a valid government issued drivers license and passport.
  • Requires excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite of products, Word, Excel, and Power Point desirable.
  • This position requires the handling of instruments that may have been contaminated by blood or other bodily fluids. In compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Aesculap will provide a safe working environment for all employees. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • President: Responsible for the overall direction and administration of the company. Decisions made have the maximum effect on the success or failure of the company to meet its overall long-term objectives. Serves as the final spokesperson for the company.


Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc


  • Requires a Masters degree in business or related field.
  • Requires minimum of 10+ years in medical business experience.
  • Requires 5 – 7 years of executive management experience.
  • Language and mathematical skills; reasoning ability:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.  
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
