Responsibilities

Position Summary:

 

The Senior Cost Analyst in the Irvine Controlling department will partner with designated product lines and functional areas to provide financial analysis and assist functional leaders drive cost initiatives and develop financial KPI’s throughout the organization.  This position will report to the Controlling Manager and be involved in all department activities to include month-end close activities, financial reporting, developing the annual financial plan, calculating cost savings, analyzing financial and manufacturing variances, completing capacity planning analysis, recommending standard recipe and router changes, analyzing changes to our standards, reviewing requests for capital investment, completing ROI calculations, and reviewing inventory reserves.  The position is also responsible for improving current business processes using SAP functionality to support end users, resolve problems, and analyze results. All responsibilities include company-wide activities related to the analysis of actual results and the projections of future results. The Senior Cost Analyst will also work closely with the Controlling Manager to deliver reliable and timely data as basis of management’s decision.

 

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Ensures accurate cost records and keeps the records up to date.  
  • Tests and identifies opportunities for cost savings.  
  • Understands how activities and their costs are linked to products, processes, and customers.  
  • Tracks monthly costs and production activity to provide insight into areas needing cost reduction and process or profit improvement.
  • Perform month-end close responsibilities to include completing and entering journal entries in SAP and completing month-end reporting to include cost center comparison schedules, key performance indicator reports, purchase price, process order, headcount and other monthly financial reporting schedules.
  • Complete account reconciliations for specific general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze monthly cost center, purchase price and process order variances and explain variances to functional area and management.
  • Analyze year over year standard cost changes.
  • Complete and analyze Product Line P&L
  • Analyze volume vs price absorption changes.
  • Review new request for capital investments and complete ROI (return on investment) calculations.
  • Track capital spending and work with project managers to develop a capital forecast.
  • Complete yearly expense plan for assigned area, enter plan information into SAP and provide explanations for year over year increases and decreases.
  • Completes capacity planning analysis for various product lines to determine the machine output and personnel requirements of each machine to be used for completing the yearly plan and standard cost roll.
  • Works with the functional areas to complete a monthly expense forecast.
  • Proposes changes to recipes, routings, and scrap rates, calculate the impact to the change, and explain quarterly increases and decreases to our standard cost.
  • Reports inventory by product line and calculate inventory ROC's.
  • Analyze inventory excess and obsolete reserves.
  • Develops plan allocations for purposes of allocating overhead costs to our standards and execute allocations monthly.
  • Develops financial models for new products and new equipment and estimate CPU for new products.
  • Calculate Units of Production Depreciation for new product line.
  • Develops queries to extract information from SAP.
  • Develops and complete Product Cost Dashboards.  It shall be the duty of every employee while at work to take reasonable care for safety and health of himself / herself and other person.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires full working knowledge of relevant business practices and procedures in professional field. Uses standard theories, principles and concepts and integrates them to propose a course of action.
  • Work under minimal supervision. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish assigned goals. May periodically assist in orienting, training, and/or reviewing the work of peers.
  • Judgement is required in resolving complex problems based on experience.
  • Contacts are primarily with department supervisors, leads, subordinates, and peers. Occasional contact with external contractors/vendors.
  • Must have Advanced Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills. Must be able to create complex formulas, macros and presentations.
  • SAP knowledge is preferred.
  • BS in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Target Based Range

$86,690 - $108,360

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 06-08 years related experience required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
